APPLICATION OF MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATION IN PEDAGOGY AND LEARNING IN NIGERIA UNIVERSITY

This study investigated the application of multimedia communication in pedagogy and learning in University of Port Hacourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The study is a descriptive design which surveyed responses of 120 respondents randomly drown from a population of 420 lecturers in the Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcurt. The researcher’s self developed Questionnaire was used for data collection which was titled: “Lecturers Responses on the Use of Multimedia Communication in Pedagogy and Learning” (LRUMCPL) The instrument was validated by an experts in test and evaluation and two lecturers in the department of curriculum studies and educational technology all in university of Port Harcourt. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained through administering the instrument on 20 lecturers in Faculty of Education, Ignetus Ajulu University, Port Harcourt. The test results were analyzed using Cronbatch Alpher which yielded an index of 0.89 showing a high level of reliability. Mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis and the findings showed among others that lecturers have used multimedia communication tools like overhead projectors, computers systems, bulletin boards, internet, film strip, and e- library in pedagogy but unsteady power supply and exigencies pose great challenges for further usage. The lecturers agreed that the use of multimedia communication improved the quality of pedagogy and enhanced learning in Nigeria University. The researchers recommended that the university management should ensure a steady supply of power and provision of multimedia communication facilities for quality pedagogy and improved learning.
